Need for school psychologists and school social workers in Kenya.
Combine the presence of bullying, drugs, peer pressure and teenage pregnancy in schools with home and internal issues e.g of divorce, death, depression, poverty, alchoholism and sexuality. Students face a great deal of pressure in their lives which can have a negative effect upon their abilities to focus on schoolwork. This is where the roles of the school psychologist and school social worker become increasingly important. The recent suicide of a teacher and his pupil and the death of another pupil, all within two weeks in a school in Nyeri,Kenya is a wake up call. This is an issue that need to be addressed by everyone who is concerned with the welfare of all learners in Kenya. Good intentions starts with me/you. What do the education bosses have to say?
